Green Tree Borough Refuse Collection Information

Curbside refuse collection is provided for the residents of the Borough of Green Tree by Waste Management, Inc. on Wednesdays for all public and private roads. Garbage should be in a watertight sealed container and placed at curbside no earlier than 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. All garbage should be curbside no later than 6:00 a.m. on the morning of pick up.

In 2019, garbage collection will be delayed ONE DAY on the weeks following:

  • New Year's Day
  • Memorial Day.
  • Labor Day.
  • Christmas Day.
  • planning ahead - New Year's Day 2020.
Garbage collection WILL NOT be affected for any other holiday in 2019.

Please note: Waste Management no longer will accept television sets with the garbage collection. Please consider recycling your unwanted televisions, as well as other electronics and mixed appliances during Green Tree's special Electronics Recycling weekends or see the Hard to Recycle collections listed below.

Refuse pick-up can include furniture, appliances, plumbing fixtures and accessories, newsprint and other trash, scrap, litter, debris, household equipment such as stoves, refrigerators, water heaters and furnace pipes, broken glass, bottles, crockery, tin cans, waste and refuse normally generated from a household or public building, lawn and yard debris, such as lawn clippings, weeds, leaves, twigs, vines, clippings from shrubs and hedges, garden plants, tree branches not exceeding 36 inches when cut, building materials smaller than 3'x2'x2'.

Mattresses and box springs will be collected curbside, but MUST be covered with plastic should it be raining or snowing between outdoor placement and collection. If the mattress/box springs become too wet, they will be too heavy for the trash collectors to lift and will not be taken. No rain or snow; no problem!

Some restrictions apply when disposing building materials. Please contact the Borough Office at 412-921-1110 for specifics and additional information.

Disposal of large appliances require that doors are removed from them for safety reasons. Refrigerators and air conditioners MUST have the freon removed prior to placing it at the curb. An appropriate sticker indicating that the freon has been removed must be prominently displayed on the refrigerator or air conditioner or it will not be collected.

If you are unsure whether an item can be placed at the curb for collection, please call the Administrative Office at 412-921-1110 or email us.
