Green Tree Borough Refuse Collection Information

Curbside refuse collection is provided for the residents of the Borough of Green Tree by Waste Management, Inc. on Wednesdays. Garbage should be in a watertight sealed container and placed at curbside no earlier than 5:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. All garbage should be curbside no later than 6:00 a.m. on the morning of pick up.

In 2017, garbage collection will be delayed ONE DAY on the weeks following:

  • Memorial Day.
  • Independence Day.
  • Labor Day.
  • Christmas Day.
  • planning ahead - New Year's Day 2018.
Garbage collection WILL NOT be affected for any other holiday in 2017.

Please note: Waste Management no longer will accept television sets with the garbage collection. Please consider recycling your unwanted televisions, as well as other electronics and mixed appliances during Green Tree's special Electronics Recycling weekends. These special recycling events will be posted on our website as they are scheduled.

Refuse pick-up can include furniture, appliances, plumbing fixtures and accessories, newsprint and other trash, scrap, litter, debris, household equipment such as stoves, refrigerators, water heaters and furnace pipes, broken glass, bottles, crockery, tin cans, waste and refuse normally generated from a household or public building, lawn and yard debris, such as lawn clippings, weeds, leaves, twigs, vines, clippings from shrubs and hedges, garden plants, tree branches not exceeding 36 inches when cut, building materials smaller than 3'x2'x2'.

Some restrictions apply when disposing building materials. Please contact the Borough Office at 412-921-1110 for specifics and additional information.

Disposal of large appliances require that doors are removed from them for safety reasons. Refrigerators and air conditioners MUST have the freon removed prior to placing it at the curb. An appropriate sticker indicating that the freon has been removed must be prominently displayed on the refrigerator or air conditioner or it will not be collected.

Co-Mingle Recycling
Green Tree recycles plastics, glass, metals, and aluminum! These Items can be co-mingled together in the large dumpster near the Public Works facility on Poplar Street. These materials should be rinsed clean before recycling and can be co-mingled in the same bag at drop off.

Aluminum Can Recycling benefitting Green Tree Rotary Charities
We RecycleIf you can separate your aluminum cans from your other recyclables, the Green Tree Rotary has a bin for the collection of aluminum cans. The proceeds from the recycling of the cans are used toward local projects such as college scholarships, youth sports and education programs, etc.

Cardboard Recycling
Green Tree Borough offers cardboard recycling in the specific bin at the recycling center near the Public Works facility on Poplar Street. Cardboard must be clean and flattened/broken down before being deposited.

AbitibiPaper Recycling
Paper recycling is also available at the recycling center on Poplar Street in the Abitibi paper recycling bins. Types of paper accepted are:

  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Catalogs
  • Workbooks
  • Junk mail
  • School papers
  • Office Papers
NOT ACCEPTED in the paper recycling bin:
  • Cardboard (can be placed in cardboard recycling bin, but must be broken down/flattened before depositing)
  • Food boxes, fiberboard, chipboard
  • Textbooks or hard-covered books
  • Phone books

PLEASE NOTE: Green Tree does not accept telephone books for recycling. Do NOT place telephone books in the paper recycling bins. Telephone books can be recycled at the following locations:
