Practice for first year swimmers starts on Thursday, June 6th, at 8:00 p.m. at Green Tree Pool. Practice for all other swimmers starts on Monday, June 10th at 8:00 p.m. If you are NOT a member of Green Tree Pool, you will not be able to enter the pool facilities until 7:45 p.m. on practice nights.

Practice is held every evening (Monday-Friday, unless noted on the calendar) at Green Tree Pool, RAIN OR SHINE! Practice is only cancelled due to thunder and lightening. Even if it rains all day and clears up by 7:30 p.m., practice is usually held. A decision as to whether, or not, practice will be held is not made until after 7:30 p.m. on practice nights. Although attending daily practice is not mandatory, it is a must for skill development and improvement and for the coaches to know who you are and how you swim.

Swim practice is usually over by 9:30 p.m. for the younger swimmers and 10:00 p.m. for older swimmers. However, it is the discretion of the coaches as to when practice is over. The Swim Team and Green Tree Pool are not responsible for any child who leaves the confines of the pool gates. Please be early to pick up your children. This is not a babysitting service!

Parents are not allowed on the pool deck or beach area (grass) during practice. If you have any questions or concerns about the practices, please talk to the coaches before or after the practices – not during.

Swim Meets consist of 48 races, some with multiple heats per race depending on the number of swimmers. Your child can only swim in 3 events, but maybe less and most often NOT in a row. When your child arrives for the meets, s/he should go directly to the sign-in table/coach who will write on your child’s hand, their swimmer number and events that show which races she/he will be competing in. The swimmers will warm-up as a team and sit together on the "beach" as a team. Please expect each meet to last a minimum of three hours - leaving early could cause the team to forfeit some races!

All swimmers are expected to stay the whole meet to cheer on their teammates and clean up after each meet. We are graciously provided the use of Green Tree Pool by the Borough of Green Tree, therefore, it is our responsibility and obligation to clean up after practices and meets.

All swimmers should wear their team T-shirts and team swimsuits (if they have one) to the meets. Swimmers should also stay in the designated "Green Tree Swim Team Beach Area" so they do not miss any of their races. The starter will not hold an event in order to look for a child who has not shown up to race. Parents and/or guardians should be aware of where their child(ren) are at all times and make sure they line up when their race is called.

This year every swimmer is required to sell hoagies for a profit of $30.00 or pay a fee of $30.00 per swimmer.

Parents, we need your help! Our swim team only thrives because of the time and talents of the many parent volunteers on the team. Please see any Swim Club Officer at any one of the evening practices to sign up to help in a variety of ways at the meets, practices, fundraisers, and picnics. There will be sign up boards at practice, prior to each meet for parents to sign up to volunteer for meets.

Swimmers Surprise Nights are unscheduled treats for swimmers who attend daily practices. From chips to pizza to going on the slide, and of course the famous coin dive, these nights are unannounced and another reason to attend daily practices on a regular basis.

Each family is assigned a folder at the beginning of the summer. The folder box is usually located in a very prominent place at all practices. Please check your folders each night after practice for important team information. Additional information will be posted on the Swim Team Bulletin Board located by the pool entrance gate (in the glass case on the wall). Make a habit of stopping by to read the information provided.

The swimmers with the first and second fastest times of each event in each age group go to the Championships Meet. They are not eligible to go to All-Stars. Everyone else competes in All-Stars. Swimmers competing in individual events at All-Stars are eligible to compete in relays only at the Championships. It is imperative that the coach knows whether you are able to attend either event as soon as possible. Being eligible for Championships should be every swimmer’s goal at the beginning of the season, and the reason for attending daily practice.

Every swimmer should check their folder for their ribbons after practice a day or two after meets. The ribbons should have your name correctly spelled on them, the event you swam in, your time, and a DQ, if you were disqualified. Place ribbons are 1st through 6th, with everyone else getting a participant ribbon. All swimmers, regardless of heat are eligible to get place ribbons (1st-6th). The goal of each swimmer should be to improve their own time with each swim meet.

The South Hills Summer Swim Conference has adopted the USA Swimming Rules for governing technical rules. Click here to download the most recent rulebook.

Several awards and prizes are given out at the Family Picnic in August. The awards and prizes are based on meet participation, practice attendance and fundraising participation.
