The following are some ordinances, regulations and zoning issues that are most commonly asked about by Green Tree Residents. This is not a complete list. Animal Control: The Pennsylvania State Dog Law Requires dog owners to obtain dog licenses by January 1 of each year. There is a fine of up to $300 for each unlicensed dog or non-vaccinated animal. Applications are available at the Borough office. Shots for pets should be kept up-to-date.

The Borough requires that animals be kept on a leash. Owners are required to clean up after their pets while walking them through the Borough.

Constant barking is prohibited.

Decks and Porches: Require building permits. Contact the Code Enforcement Officer for specifics.

Additions to Existing Homes/Buildings: Require a building permit. Discuss your plans with the Code Enforcement Officer prior to starting.

Driveways: Do not require a building permit. Sidewalks must be kept free of debris, snow and ice.

Fences: A building permit is required for the installation of any fence in the Borough. Click here for a downloadable permit. In the residential district, fences are not permitted to be taller than six feet (6') in height and are only permitted in the backyard.

Swimming Pools (in-ground and above-ground): Require a building permit.

Walls: Some walls require a building permit and some do not. Contact the Code Enforcement Officer at (412) 921-1110 or send an email.

Grass and Weeds: Grass cannot exceed eight inches (8") in height. Property owners are responsible for the removal of poison ivy, poison oak, or any other toxic vegetation whose existance poses a hazard to others.

Garbage: Regularly scheduled pick up day in Green Tree is Wednesday, except if a holiday falls on a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. During 2004, garbage pick up will be delayed one day in Green Tree Borough following these holidays: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day. Garbage should be in bags or cans and placed curbside no earlier than 5:00 p.m. For more information about Green Tree's trash collection go to Refuse & Recycling.

House Numbers: All buildings must have house numbers. House numbers must be visible from the street and are required to be at least three inches (3") in height.

Parking: Parking is not permitted on Borough streets between the hours of 2:30 a.m. and 7:00 a.m.

Storage of Unlicensed Vehicles: Storage of cars, boats, trucks, trailers, etc., is prohibited.

Storage Sheds: A building permit is required for a storage shed. Storage sheds cannot be larger than a gross floor area of 160 square feet nor exceed twelve feet (12') in height. Sheds can only be placed in the rear yard and cannot be closer than three feet (3') to the side lot line or the rear lot line. Signs: All signs require a permit

Political Signs: Cannot be displayed until 30 days before an election. All signs must be removed within one week after the election.

Satellite Dishes & Antennas: Only one (1) dish or antenna is permitted per residential property, and a building permit is required for a satellite dish.
