GT Garden Club
and educational programs.The club, founded in 1971, celebrated its 52nd anniversary in 2023. We maintain all the gardens in the Green Tree Municipal Park and hold regular meetings with programs related to gardening. We welcome new members, both experienced gardeners and beginners. 2024 Programs
Daytime Programs begin at 12:15 pm in the Hemlock/Sycamore Meeting Room at 10 W. Manilla Avenue (Green Tree Municipal Center), unless otherwise noted. Evening Programs begin at 7:15 pm in the Carlisle Social Hall at 825 Poplar Street (Green Tree Fire Station), unless otherwise noted.
- Thursday, February 1: "Turning Your Lawn into a Biodiverse Habitat" presented by Chris Kosin, GaiaScape, LLC. This program will take place at 12:15 pm.
- Thursday, March 7: "Plant Propagation” presented by Janel Morrison of the Bidwell Training Center Horticulture Department. This program will take place at 12:15 pm.
- Thursday, April 11: “Vegetable Gardening” presented by Pat Morgan, Penn State Master Gardener. This program will take place at 7:15 p.m.
- Thursday, May 2: “Hummingbirds 101” presented by Julie Travaglini, of the Allegheny Land Trust. This program will take place at 12:15 pm.
- Thursday, June 13: “Preserving the Harvest” presented by Susan Marquesen, Penn State Master Gardener. This program will take place at 7:15 pm in the Municipal Garden located behind the Green Tree Borough Municipal Building (weather permitting).
- Thursday, July 11: “Managing Pests in Your Edible Garden” presented by Dr. Mark Miller, Education Director of the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden. This program will take place at the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden at 10:00 am. Reservations are required.
- Thursday, August 8: “Perennials: Three Seasons of Color in the Garden” presented by Bill Goff, Penn State Master Gardener. This program will take place at 7:15 p.m.
- Thursday, September 5: “Building a Terrarium” presented by Tony Ciotoli of City Grows, LLC. This program will begin at 12:30 pm following our annual Municipal Workers Recognition Luncheon at 11:00 am in the Sycamore/Hemlock Room of the Municipal Center.
- Thursday, October 3: “Bulbs for Spring and Beyond" presented by Joan Kugler, Penn State Master Gardener. This program will take place at 12:15 pm.
- Thursday, November 14: “Compost Happens!” presented by John Powell, Penn State Master Gardener. This program will take place at 7:15 p.m.
Reservations are required for all field trips, and guests pay a modest fee for transportation and lunch. Transportation is via bus or carpool.
