The Green Tree Public Works Department includes six full-time laborers, and a custodian who work under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent.
The Department is responsible for year-round maintenance of all Borough parks, gardens, buildings and recreational facilities, including the Wilson Park Swimming Pool. In addition, the department is responsible for the provision of fall leaf and Christmas Tree collection, annual street sweeping, the community leaf compost facility, as well as all winter maintenance of all roads within the Borough. More specific information on Borough services provided are detailed below.
Christmas Tree Collection and Recycling
Residents may place their undecorated live Christmas Trees at the curb for collection. Collection will be completed the first two weeks of January, weather permitting.
Leaf Collection
Green Tree Public Works Department collects, and composts leaf waste generated in the Borough each year. Fall leaf collection starts in October and runs through November, weather permitting. To participate in fall leaf collection, rake leaves to the curb, but not into the gutter/street by 7 am of the morning of the scheduled collection. Do not include branches or twigs in with the leaves. Residents that live on Carnahan Road, Greentree Road, Mansfield Avenue, McMonagle Avenue, Noblestown Road, Pin Oak Drive, Poplar Street, and Potomac Avenue MUST bag their leaves and place the bags at the edge of the yard by 7:00 am on the Friday of scheduled collection. Please do not place your leaf bags at the edge of the yard before Thursday evening, as it can create a hazardous situation, particularly if collection is delayed or if it rains.
2023 Leaf Collection Schedule is October 30th through the end of November, weather permitting. Refer to the below schedule for your pickup day.

Leaf Compost
The leaf compost facility is located at Green Tree Park; compost is available for use by Green Tree residents all year around. When possible, Public Works will refill the compost bin on Fridays, or as needed.
Snow Removal
Public Works provides winter maintenance for all public roads in the Borough, including State owned roads. The main corridors of the Borough are the primary focus, with the side streets and alleys being secondary. Residents should not park on the street during snow events as it prevents the full and efficient removal of snow and ice from the roads.
Street Sweeping
Street sweeping is performed April through June. This service is part of the Borough’s compliance with the requirements of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Program.
